What a month January was!
Highlights included
-Going away party
-Move to the UK
-Getting our lives set up over here
-Exploring London
-Started applying for jobs
Miss Aussie Strategy and I wrapped up work just before Christmas and had a really nice Christmas break.
We finished off our lease at our little unit and after a lot of cleaning and emails we got the bond back 🙂
It’s been a great unit, there was a good community feel in the block of units that I really liked. But a few of the things we learnt included:
-We need a dishwasher in the next few houses we choose to rent. It was pretty brutal hand washing dishes day after day and killed the midweek cooking vibes.
-We need good heating and cooling, this unit got really damn cold in winter, see your own breath type cold.
-Gotta try to be close to both our works and the gym. We rocked one car, which was the right call as it saved us a lot of money. But it made getting to the gym tricky for both of us. We also had 30 minute commutes to both of of works.
-Hopefully in the future we can get jobs in the suburb we live in so we feel a bit closer to the local community.
Both sides of the family live locally so it was really nice to have a Christmas close to both our families.
We also got down to the beach heaps which was really nice and not something we are going to be able to do in the UK.
After Christmas we had our going away party which was awesome, but a little bit sad to say goodbye to all our friends.
And since late January we have been living in London!
Miss Aussie Strategy’s uncle has a place in Brixton that we have been lucky enough to stay in, as he is working overseas.
They just renovated it, and it is absolutely elite! Most London houses are pretty small, but the renovation has made it really really lovely. Big kitchen and all the mod cons.
We also got accepted into a share house in Battersea. We liked the vibe as it seems like a really social house, there will be 7 of us in total though, so a busy kitchen lol! Moving in late February
Rent and all bills are 1350 pounds per month, which includes a cleaner! (apparently the done thing in London, certainly wouldn’t do it back in Aus).
So it’s a lot more expensive compared to back home! We will be paying more here, compared to our two bedroom flat we had to ourselves back home lol!
It is a pretty sick location though, really close to the Fulham football ground so I’m pretty keen to get to a few games there!
We have also been doing park runs each week at Clapham Common. And is it just me or has running become insanely popular over the last few years. The park runs we go to here are absolutely packed, and the ones back home are super busy as well.
We got to the Stranger Things play in the West End which was great as well. I am not usually the biggest fan of plays / musicals. But this one was great as it connected up with the TV show. Showing all the events before the TV show began. The special effects were awesome as well!
We also got out for a hike and pub lunch on a Sunday. It was a really sunny day which is rare for January. Had a roast and it was delicious! The pubs here are so good as well, such a nice atmosphere and so much history to them!
I’ve also been applying for a few assistant buyer jobs. A few rejections, but onboarded with two recruiters and got a phone interview with a supermarket! Time will tell what sort of job I will get.
We also are doing a house sitting gig in Richmond in February and doing a short trip to Paris to catch up with my best mate who is flying over, will provide more details in the next month.
