End of the Year Update

Finance

Big gap between posts on my end, but thought I would give an end of year update.

Decided to pay off the rest of my HECs which was not that much in the end (about 4k).

It actually would have been a better idea to leave the money in a high interest savings account and pay it off right before tax time.

I paid off a fair bit as well before it got indexed last year.

However as I keep going along the FIRE journey I must admit I am chasing the “optimal” option a lot less.

As long as we are trending in the right direction I am pretty happy to be honest.

Travel

I am pretty pumped to be heading away for a month to South East Asia, which is going to be a blast.

We are leaving right after Christmas and going for about a month to the countries below:

-Singapore

-Thailand

-Cambodia

-Vietnam

It should be a sick trip and I am pretty excited as I have not done a lot of overseas travel since COVID.

Other Updates

Also in other big news I won my divi 2 table tennis league lol 😂

It has been an absolute blast playing the league this year and I really enjoy it.

Table tennis is an underrated sport, you can play it until you are pretty old and there are a lot of different strategies and techniques.

I am moving up to division 1 next year so that will be interesting… There are some pretty good players there!

Health

In the past I definitely took my health for granted. This year I got COVID and it just kept sticking around, I found it really tough to get out of bed in the morning, or maybe I am just lazy 😂.

I was able to slowly get back into the swing of things, but it certainly goes to show how underrated your health is.

I also kept getting headaches day after day, and after seeing the GP had to go and get a lot of different scans and tests.

It is all looking okay now which is good, but for a while it was pretty damn stressful.

Future Plans

Miss Aussie Strategy and I have been talking a fair bit about traveling and working overseas.

We think we might do this at the start of 2025. She is a Primary School Teacher so she can pretty easily get work over in the UK.

I reckon I could also get a gig over there as well. There are only two issues.

-They pay less

-It is really bloody cold over there

I would be pretty keen to do it though, as I reckon it would be a good adventure before adult life fully hits!
