FAQ

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I grew up in the suburbs of Melbourne. Really nice area and great parents so got lucky there.

Both my parents were pretty frugal and loved hunting out the bargains at the shops, and it caught on for me as well!

I always found investing really interesting, and the idea you could have a share of a profitable business really got me excited.

Why do you want to write this blog

A lot of the FIRE bloggers in Australia have entered a new life stage as they hit their 30’s.

So there is not a lot of content for younger Aussies.

Also FIRE has changed a lot.

In the Mr Money Mustache days (G’Day Triple M if you are reading!) the basic formula for most FIRE folk was to work full time really hard for 10-15 years and have enough money to explore other things.

Now that there is WFH and a different culture around career I feel like FIRE has changed a lot.

I also would love to hear from other people in the Aussie FIRE community and hear their thoughts as well.

Why do you want to achieve FIRE?

It’s the freedom for me. I really like to be able to call the shots on what I do and when. Usually full time work does not give you that type of freedom.

I really struggle to spend money (I don’t have a car and rent a nice cheap unit) so I don’t think I will ever want a lot of possessions.

I reckon I will do paid work until I cark it, I really enjoy working and having goals and achieving them.

How did you get interested in investing?

I used to sell lemons out the front of my house for a few bucks and when I realised you could earn passive income through the share market I was hooked.

18th birthday I bought about a grand of CBA shares (classic Aussie buying the banks)…

After that I bought a few managed funds but the fees were really high.

Since then I have run a 50-50 AFIC VAS portfolio. If I had any skills in construction I would look at investment properties, sadly they are lacking lol…

What is your goal?

I am not too bothered when I achieve FIRE. I think it will be a pretty slow burn. I think your 20’s is a pretty special time for adventure. No kids or mortgage. So I mainly want to focus on creating some pretty amazing memories.
